First virtual gateway to understanding!

In the year 2000, I stumbled upon my first internet café—a hotel corner restaurant with large glass windows connecting us with the quiet street outside. A few trees swayed lazily, and a solitary car passed by once every hour.

Inside, aligned tables faced the walls, featuring transparent glass panels revealing computer screens below, allowing you to place your cup of drink while exploring the internet through the table.

My first venture into the internet was a puzzling experience. This was a time before search engines, and I had to type web addresses directly into the browser's title bar (Do you remember that?).

I spent ten minutes navigating msn.com, the default website. Shifting my gaze between the screen and the cafe manager, as if subtly seeking assistance. Finally, he acknowledged me with a subtle nod, granting permission to approach and pose my question.

Me: approaching the cafe supervisor with a friendly smile "Salam, how can I access websites other than the default one?"

Cafe supervisor: returning the smile "What piques your interest?"

Me: thinking for a moment "Nothing specific, but I have a fascination with airplanes."

The cafe supervisor, with a knowing nod, quickly jots down "allaboutairplanes.com" on a piece of paper and hands it to me. The warm smile on their face makes me feel welcome and excited to explore.

This website was a museum of airplanes, very nice and neatly organized, filled with pictures and information. I spent hours there, even though one hour of internet usage cost me as much as 10 pounds, equivalent to five days of school per diem.

However, it was unquestionably worthwhile. I fell in love with the internet, not just because of airplanes but also because of the thrill of discovering new information, connecting with people, and exploring places beyond the confines of my small city.

The café owner noticed my enthusiasm and decided to introduce me to other fascinating websites, broadening my horizons.

Despite the incredible experience, the internet speed was frustratingly slow. Loading a single webpage could take what felt like an eternity, so I developed the habit of reading everything on a page before moving on to the next, all in an effort to minimize the waiting time.

My weekly visits to the internet café became a cherished routine, eagerly anticipated moments when I could dive into the boundless universe of the internet, unlocking a world of limitless possibilities and knowledge.
